This interim report details Southwestern's strategic initiative to become a Hispanic-Including Institution, building on a tactic from its 2021-26 Tactical Plan. It outlines the institution's current status regarding Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) eligibility, distinguishing between "Hispanic-Enrolling" and "Hispanic-Serving" institutions. The report identifies key areas for improvement and provides guiding principles and recommendations across three categories: actions within current budget, actions requiring small-scale fundraising, and actions needing significant long-term revenue. The primary focus is on strengthening existing programs, designing new services, and coordinating efforts to foster a sustainable culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity (DIBE) for Hispanic/Latinx students and students of color more broadly, with the ultimate goal of achieving HSI designation and transforming institutional culture to ensure their success and belonging.
