The Board of Commissioners conducted a work session covering several key items, including a public hearing on a proposed 12-month moratorium on data centers. Reports were provided by the Sheriff's Office and Emergency Services regarding operational statistics and system upgrades. The Board approved the 2025 Annual Child Fatality Report, a resolution recognizing National Recovery Month, a new Community Service and Volunteer Leave Policy, and the Nondiscrimination and Limited English Proficiency plans. Additionally, the Board appointed a voting delegate for the NCACC Annual Conference, approved applications for NCDOT Pedestrian Safety Program grants, and authorized a contract with Davenport & Company for financial advisory services related to the Farmers Market Commons project.
The board discussed old business, specifically the list of poll workers for early voting and the schedule for early voting shifts. Additionally, the board addressed the hiring of a Deputy Director and decided to postpone posting the position until after the election. The Director's report was presented and accepted. During a closed session, personnel matters were discussed, leading to the decision to bring a staff member back on a part-time basis to assist the office.
The Board addressed citizen comments regarding board appointments and a proposed data center moratorium. Staff provided updates on local construction projects, county hiring processes, and the progress of the Farmers Market. Key actions included the approval of the Final Plat for Phase II of The Pointe at Kerr Lake and the authorization to apply for pedestrian safety project grants. Additionally, the Board discussed the data center moratorium, filled a board vacancy, considered future joint meetings with other county entities, and reviewed enforcement efforts regarding the Sign Ordinance.
