Birmingham Metropolitan Planning Organization Freight Plan
The Birmingham Regional Freight Plan, adopted by the Birmingham Metropolitan Planning Organization, was developed to comply with federal (FAST Act) and state requirements. The plan outlines the regional freight system, including multimodal infrastructure and commodity flow analysis, and identifies significant economic contributions of the freight industry. Its primary purpose is to integrate freight system needs into the 2045 Regional Transportation Plan through a prioritized list of roadway, airport, port, and rail projects based on performance measures focusing on economic impact, external benefits, and transportation efficiency.
