The board discussed expanding the existing gas moratorium to include all new residential construction to align with the Specialized Energy Code. This proposal includes freezing new additions to the gas service waiting list, closing the discounted gas heat rate to new participants, and transitioning new customers to a higher gas rate. Staff were tasked with reviewing the waiting list to remove inactive customers and determining a timeframe for those on the list to install service. Additionally, a motion was approved to freeze the current gas service waiting list as of June 3, 2026, until a final decision on the moratorium is reached.

WMGLD Board of Commissioners Board Meeting
The board discussed a customer communication regarding a request for new natural gas service, which is currently frozen as part of the town's clean energy goals. Key topics included the customer's perspective on home heating resiliency, the need for backup heating systems, and the potential unintended environmental consequences of current restrictions. The board deliberated on the lack of a current policy for new service requests, the possibility of establishing a new rate for such connections, and the necessity of further analysis regarding cost of service for backup-only gas users. No final policy action was taken, but the need to develop a clearer, balanced approach to electrification and household resiliency was emphasized.
