CTECS Business Industry Committee Webvtt
The meeting centered on committee business, including technical difficulties at the start and the introduction of Brent Davenport as the first ex-officio member of the committee. A significant portion of the discussion focused on partnerships in action, detailing how industry support enhances student learning outcomes. Specific examples included annual scholarship opportunities from organizations like UCAC, SMA, PMA, and CHCC for trade-bound students, and the significant contributions from Call Before You Dig for excavator training and scholarships. Large donations were highlighted, such as annual contributions from Gene Hos to promote CNC training, and machinery donations to create new program pathways. Specifically, the Connecticut Construction Industries Association donated approximately $100,000 to modify a carpentry shop at Vinyl to create a new 'Building and Civil Construction' program, which strengthens connections with the carpenters union. The committee also discussed future engagement strategies, debating between adding more ex-officio industry members or scheduling presentations from various industry sectors to ensure well-rounded advisory input.
