TUED South Platform Strategic Approach
The TUED South Platform is a new trade union initiative focused on advancing a public pathway approach to a just energy transition in the Global South. Its strategic objectives include fostering trade union cooperation on energy transition, building a common understanding of current realities and challenges, and committing to a public pathway alternative grounded in public ownership of energy systems and essential supply chains. Key elements of this public pathway encompass long-term energy planning, a public goods mandate for utilities, ending energy for profit, democratic control, technological pluralism, and public financing. The platform aims to address rising fossil fuel usage and energy poverty, counteract privatization, and enable unions to influence policy for a truly just transition.
