Planning and Zoning Division Hearing
The Planning and Zoning Division continued a hearing regarding the proposed rezoning of nearly 600 East Biloxi properties. The Planning Commission reviewed maps to rezone properties for various uses, including waterfront, community business, and multi-family residential. Following public input, the commission decided to keep certain areas, specifically the Beach Boulevard property between Hopkins and Porter Avenue, unchanged due to neighborhood concerns regarding commercial development. The staff will revise the maps based on these decisions before submitting them to the City Council for final approval.

Ocean Springs School Board School Board Meeting
The board unanimously approved the second phase of a $37 million bond dedicated to the construction of a new middle school and the partial demolition of the upper elementary school. Additionally, the board approved facility improvements for the Pecan Park and Oak Park Elementary School campuses.
The meeting addressed a proposal to rezone 594 parcels in East Biloxi, primarily shifting from single-family residential to commercial building zoning to encourage development on long-undeveloped properties. Residents expressed concerns regarding the large scale of the rezoning area and the inclusion of the West Central Historic District. City officials clarified that the scope of the proposal may be reduced based on public feedback. A follow-up round table discussion was announced to further solicit input from property owners.
