The board discussed the 2026-2027 tax presentation and proposed tax rates following a reduction in assessments due to homestead exemptions. The board decided to maintain the existing tax rates for real and personal property, acknowledging that while this results in a slight revenue reduction, it avoids further tax increases for constituents. The board also authorized the superintendent to publish the required advertisement for these rates.
The board meeting included student and staff recognitions, including the introduction of a new 'Heart of a Wildcat' award to honor employees who exemplify core learner traits and demonstrated courage in a recent school safety incident. Reports were provided on the district's financial status, including general fund balances and cash flow projections. Discussion topics also included updates on the district's 'strong instruction' commitment, gifted and talented student data, and a successful district-wide attendance initiative. Additionally, the board reviewed progress on I-Ready reading and math screeners for students and discussed the selection process for the student lighthouse team.
The Comprehensive District Improvement Plan for Menifee County Public Schools serves as a roadmap for continuous improvement, aiming to enhance student achievement, foster growth, and eliminate achievement gaps. Key focus areas include improving proficiency in reading and mathematics for all students, particularly those with disabilities, and strengthening the school climate and safety by boosting student efficacy, motivation, and ownership of learning. The plan utilizes Kentucky's Key Core Work Processes as strategic approaches to achieve these objectives.
