The Board of Education conducted a special meeting and work session that included the appointment of certified and classified staff, adjustments in salary and pay rates, and the approval of an extra duty stipend for an administrator. The Board approved student handbooks for multiple district schools and authorized various contracts with vendors including GameTime, Laketec, T3 Performance, Southwest Companies Inc., and All Ways Construction. Additionally, the Board approved updated courses of study for technology and business, reviewed governance retreat topics, discussed liaison roles and levy scenarios, and authorized a lease extension for property with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
The board meeting agenda focused on several key items, including the recognition of the Rocky River High School varsity boys lacrosse team's state championship victory and the adoption of the Rocky River Public Library tax budget for fiscal year 2027. Significant financial matters were addressed, such as the approval of financial statements, intrafund transfers, appropriations for multiple funds, and the issuance of bus acquisition notes. Additionally, the board approved various staffing changes including resignations and new appointments, updated job descriptions, and entered into numerous contracts for services ranging from auditing and electronic vendor monitoring to educational software and insurance coverage.
The meeting focused on fiscal reviews and planning. Discussions included a review of May monthly and fiscal year-to-date financial reports, an update on June expenditure trends, and a forecast that the fiscal year is expected to end approximately $1.3 million below the budget. The Board also reviewed routine fiscal year-end items such as transfers and advances, and examined main points regarding fiscal year 2027 appropriations, specifically within the General Fund, noting projections are below forecasted amounts due to operational efficiencies and personnel changes.
