The committee reviewed workplace safety inspection checklists across several district schools, addressing issues such as a floor scrubber repair, cement hazards, file cabinet placement, custodial cleaning, and door latch functionality. Members reviewed the Workman's Compensation Report and Report of Injury forms regarding recent incidents and discussed safety recommendations, including the use of gloves. The committee reviewed a newsletter on safe lifting techniques and body mechanics. Additionally, the construction of two new greenhouses was noted, with a specific focus on safety measures regarding fan accessibility.

The committee discussed workplace safety, reviewing reports of employee injuries and the distribution of procedures for workers' compensation. A primary focus was the review of safety inspection checklists for various district buildings, identifying concerns such as unsecured handrails, exterior lighting issues, maintenance needs for floor equipment and elevators, damaged flooring, and improper storage of items obstructing aisles. Additionally, members reviewed a risk control newsletter emphasizing slip, trip, and fall prevention strategies, including proper housekeeping, equipment training, and winter weather safety measures.

The meeting included a review of the Workman's Compensation Report, showing nineteen accident claims year-to-date with five remaining open. The Committee reviewed four accidents reported since the previous meeting, one of which resulted in treatment sought, though none resulted in lost work time. Corrective actions for one injury involved ensuring the proper soap usage and checking a soap dispenser for leaks. The Committee also reviewed the December UPMC WorkPartners Risk Control newsletter, which covered hazard identification methods and types of hazards to monitor, as well as the district's third-quarter newsletter on winter safety. Old business addressed ongoing work orders and corrections for maintenance issues at Emily Brittain Elementary School and the Senior High School.

The Safety Committee agenda for the upcoming meeting includes calling the meeting to order, roll call, review of old business, and new business items. Key new business topics involve reviewing the current Workman's Compensation Report, reviewing current Report Of Injury forms, and reviewing the Third Quarter Newsletter. The meeting following this agenda is scheduled for February 11, 2026.
