The commission held an election for the positions of chair and vice-chair and provided updates on the city's storm water master plan, including progress, public engagement strategies, and responses to previous feedback.

The Planning Commission discussed the proposed eight-story mixed-use commercial and residential building at 616 South B Street, known as Nazareth Vista. The session included a staff presentation covering project history, compliance with zoning and state density bonus laws, transportation impact analysis, and environmental exemptions. Retail consultant recommendations regarding commercial infrastructure and utility connections were reviewed. The commission received public feedback on the proposal, which included both support for the added density and concerns regarding building height, traffic, and pedestrian safety.

This strategic plan serves as a foundational document for the City of San Mateo, outlining a comprehensive framework to aid in the implementation and prioritization of ten major Strategic Initiatives. The plan aims to provide guidance for immediate and long-term decision-making, ensure an intentional strategic direction, integrate with budget and capital improvement processes, and optimize resource utilization. Key focus areas include Climate Resiliency, Infrastructure, Transportation, Housing, Economic Development, Healthy Community for All Ages, Public Safety, Land Use, Organizational Health and Good Governance, and Community Engagement and Communications, all informed by extensive community feedback to achieve a shared vision for the city's future.

The meeting included a closed session regarding labor negotiations, followed by an annual progress report on the city's climate action plan. Key topics discussed included building electrification strategies, energy performance reach codes for new construction and renovations, the installation of solar carports at community facilities, fleet transition to electric vehicles, and an ordinance to prohibit gas-powered leaf blowers. Community feedback was addressed regarding greenhouse gas reduction efforts and partnerships for climate resilience.
