Safety Committee Meeting Minutes
The meeting addressed several operational and security matters. Key discussion points included the distribution of the first edition of the new quarterly Campus Safety Newsletter, which received no immediate feedback. Updates were provided on ongoing infrastructure projects: the fire alarm panel replacement in Klein Hall is tentatively scheduled for Spring Break, and the fire alarm system in Melville Hall is slated for an update to improve location accuracy following a steam incident. Security enhancements for the Academic Center were discussed, involving the installation of alarms on classroom emergency exit doors integrated with the card access system, the installation of new CCTV cameras, and the replacement of an exterior door with card-only access. New business included a report on one worker's compensation claim, forthcoming safety audit results for the Academic Center highlighting fire safety concerns in mechanical rooms, and planning for Active Shooter/Situational Awareness training. Other departmental concerns covered heating issues in the Bear's Den, pending scoreboard repairs, and building audit follow-up for the OMGC building. Clarification was provided regarding the required use of ID badges for entry through the ADA-accessible door in the Academic Center, and the possibility of mandating lanyards for student IDs was mentioned.
