Fuller Seminary Chapel
The chapel service included announcements regarding the upcoming Ash Wednesday service. The speaker introduced two reoccurring guests, Dr. Jacqueline Williams and Dr. Jennifer Acriman, who are now part of the chapel faculty committee planning services. The service featured a call to worship centered on God calling people out of hiding and toward courage, followed by musical worship. The main preaching moment focused on the theme, "The True North Star," using the analogy of walking at night in the city versus the country to discuss dangers seen and unseen. The message emphasized that God's word is the essential lamp and light for guidance, especially when facing affliction or when things 'fall apart,' contrasting it with less reliable human inventions like intuition, intellect, or GPS technology. The service concluded with a prayer of commitment to the Lord's statutes.

The session focused on celebrating Black History Month and the musical traditions of African-Americans, emphasizing rhythm, call and response, and communal song. Key discussion points included the foundational role of music traditions carried from Africa and their evolution through spirituals, blues, gospel, and subsequent genres like rock and roll and hip-hop. The session specifically highlighted gospel music across five decades, featuring detailed stories and performances related to Sister Rosetta Tharpe's foundational 1947 recording "Up Above My Head" (considered a blueprint for rock and roll) and Dr. Richard Smallwood's 1987 composition "Center of My Joy," which blended classical precision with gospel soul. The event also touched upon the significance of gospel music as a tool for resistance and organization during pivotal moments in Black American history, such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

The event marked the 60th anniversary of the School of Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy (SOPMFT), held on a rescheduled date due to the impact of the Eaton and Palisades fires. Key discussion points included reflecting on the school's history, defined by the integration concept of 'planting the cross in the heart of psychology,' and the enduring themes of hope and healing. Speakers discussed the challenges students face regarding interpersonal differences and the need for relational skills over mere theoretical knowledge, especially concerning rapidly evolving technology like AI. The conversation highlighted the school's role in training clinicians who emphasize holistic care, spirituality, and continuing education, noting the significant legacy of graduates and faculty in various fields, including neurosychology and pastoral influence.

Fuller Seminary Chapel Webvtt
The content appears to be a transcript for a chapel service, specifically noting it as the sixth week of chapel service. Key discussion points included worship through song, a prayer in Mandarin, and a reflection on scripture from the Gospel of Luke 19:11-17. The reflection focused on the challenging nature of the parable concerning the nobleman and his slaves, contrasting it with other preferred scriptures, and drawing connections to contemporary concerns, such as praying for persecuted Christians, including Fuller alumni like Pastor Esra Chin detained in Beijing. The service concluded with further worship and closing remarks.
