The document details the dedication ceremony for the reconstructed Hulley Tower, a celebration of the soul of Stetson University. Key discussions involved reflecting on the significance of Dr. Lincoln Hull, the university's second president, and the original tower he envisioned and funded. The summary highlighted Hull's background, his leadership through challenging eras, and the tower's unique architecture, including the Eloise chimes. It also mentioned the tower's demolition after hurricanes, the subsequent funding and reconstruction efforts, and the installation of a new 52-bell carillon. Tributes were paid to the Hull family, donors, local talent involved in design and construction, and three students lost in the 1979 Insbrook Avalanche, whose memory is honored with three Eloise chimes on the tower.
The University Faculty Meeting included opening remarks, a finance presentation, and a discussion regarding the university's financial health and strategy. The structural deficit, strategic responses, and budget proposals were discussed. Concerns were raised about relying on future tuition growth and temporary financial fixes. The sustainability of intercollegiate athletics was questioned, and the need for transparency and community-wide engagement in navigating financial challenges was emphasized.
The meeting addressed faculty compensation, including presentations and discussions on data-driven analysis, external benchmarking, and internal analysis of salary data. A motion was made and amended regarding a salary increase, with a vote resulting in the approval of an amended motion. Multiple options for a 2025-2026 salary increase were presented to faculty in a poll. The meeting concluded with a summary of recommendations for addressing salary compression and market misalignment, including a multi-year plan, regular review processes, and ongoing faculty participation in compensation decisions.
