Zoning Adjustment Board City of Ocean Springs Board Meeting
The meeting featured an audience request regarding an unpermitted house structure at 605 Ward, which is currently subject to a court-ordered demolition. The citizen raised concerns about alleged negotiations between the city and the property owner to retain the structure, emphasizing the need for a transparent public hearing process for any potential variances regarding code requirements for accessory dwelling units.
The Commission held a public hearing regarding Case 26 PC029, a request for a map amendment to rezone the property located at 1520 Government Street from CMX1 to CMX2 zoning districts. The applicant presented a proposal for a mixed-use development featuring retail space and residential units, specifically seeking the ability to include a third story. Commissioners deliberated on the potential impact of this rezoning on the surrounding area, focusing on the character of the street, the implications of setting a precedent for further rezonings, and parking requirements associated with the proposed district changes.
