The event was the first lecture in The Rabbi Admiral Aaron Landes Lecture Series, featuring Vice Admiral (Ret.) Herman Shelanski. The discussion encompassed the significance of Rabbi Landes as a beloved figure, a powerful force in Philadelphia, and the second rabbi to become head of the Navy Chaplain Corps. The context of Jewish military experience in the United States was detailed, tracing history from colonial militias to participation in the Civil War and subsequent conflicts. The presentation also highlighted Admiral Shelanski's distinguished naval career, including commanding Carrier Strike Group 10 and serving as the 40th Naval Inspector General.
