The Council meeting agenda includes member report outs on adaptation resilience initiatives and programmatic updates from ICARP staff. Key topics for discussion include presentations on California's 5th Climate Change Assessment regarding economic impacts and adaptation financing, planning for the Resilient California Summit, updates on General Plan and Tribal Consultation guidelines, a panel on insurance tools for adaptation, and strategies for advancing equitable climate adaptation through private sector tools. The session concludes with subcommittee reports and general public comment.
This document outlines a series of climate research topics intended to address knowledge gaps within the State of California's research portfolio and align with its climate change priorities for the Fifth Climate Change Assessment. Developed with input from over 200 experts, it integrates cross-cutting themes such as governance, economics, equity, traditional knowledge, and monitoring. The research areas cover critical impacts including sea level rise, water resources, extreme weather events, natural hazards, public health, infrastructure resilience, and ecological systems, with the goal of informing future research processes for the Fifth Assessment.
The public workshop focused on an update to California's Extreme Heat Action Plan, an initiative co-facilitated by the Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation and the California Natural Resources Agency. Key discussion topics included an overview of the strategic plan, which is organized around four action tracks: public awareness and notification, community services and response, the built environment, and nature-based solutions. Breakout sessions allowed for direct feedback on these tracks, and information was provided regarding the public comment period, future workshops, and upcoming infrastructure funding through the Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program.
