Fire Commission Regular Meeting
The meeting consisted entirely of public comments regarding the mandatory sprinkler retrofit requirement for existing high-rise residential buildings. Homeowners and residents expressed strong opposition to the mandate, highlighting the extreme financial burden it places on individuals, particularly seniors and those on fixed incomes. Speakers argued that the requirement lacks a clear cost-benefit justification, noted that it could force residents out of their homes, and urged the commission to repeal the mandate in favor of alternative, risk-based fire safety strategies.
