The event marked the Health and Sciences Graduate Winter Commencement Ceremony for the graduating class of 2019, noted as the last graduating class of that decade. The proceedings included congratulations to graduates from the Acupuncture Institute and School of Chiropractic, and recognition of family and friends joining via webcast. A key component involved the introduction of the stage party, featuring university officials, directors, and administrators, followed by the national anthem and an invocation. The commencement speaker, Dr. Stephen Pearl, delivered an address focusing on altruism in healthcare, the importance of continuous learning (sabbaticals for growth), handling the demanding nature of their studies (mentally, physically, socially, emotionally), and the necessity of adapting to change in the healthcare marketplace, referencing concepts from 'The Rainbow Fish' and 'Who Moved My Cheese'.
