The commission reviewed several development projects, including the approval of a temporary fireworks tent, exterior renovations at 620 Liberty Avenue and 401 Wood Street, the construction of a nine-story office building and a six-story parking structure at Bakery Square, and a new five-story educational building for Carnegie Mellon University. Several land consolidation and subdivision plans across multiple city wards were also approved. Discussion points included community engagement, accessibility, traffic management, and storm water management related to the proposed developments.
The commission reviewed several projects, including the Belasco T-Station renovation, the installation of informational markers for the former Three Rivers Stadium, and an update to the Regional Parks Signage Standards. Presentations were made for three public art projects under the Art in Parks program, which involved conceptual reviews for sculpture installations in Highland Park and Emerald View Park. Additionally, the commission approved a bylaw change regarding the Over-The-Counter review process.
The Commission addressed several items including a request to appeal an ineligible status for an Administrator 2 position, which resulted in the scheduling of a public hearing. A medical waiver request from a police recruit applicant was approved. The Commission also approved nominations for the position of Application Technician and certified candidates to fill vacancies for Police Sergeant and Police Lieutenant.
The Planning Commission discussed and acted upon several historic nominations, including the Abrams House and the Westinghouse Memorial, both of which received positive recommendations for City Council. The commission reviewed and approved a redevelopment project at 1318 Grandview Avenue, a zone change petition for Larimer Avenue, and exterior renovations at 625 Stanwix Street. Additionally, the commission approved multiple subdivision and consolidation plans for properties located in the 10th, 20th, and 2nd Wards.
The Commission reviewed multiple contract plans regarding minority and woman-owned business enterprise (MWBE) participation. Key discussion topics included the PWSA Catch Basin Replacement contract, the Susquehanna Homes redevelopment project, HACP window replacement and environmental services contracts, and the SEA Gold Lot garage project. The Commission addressed issues concerning the scope of their oversight, compliance with City Code versus agency-specific policies, the definition of good faith efforts, and the timing of contract submissions. Several plans were approved, some with conditions, one was tabled for further outreach, and the PWSA 2016 Urgent Sewer Repair plan was approved.
