The meeting focused on a public hearing regarding a local law to override the New York State tax levy limit. Residents voiced concerns about the financial impact of potential tax increases, specifically citing the burden on fixed-income households, increasing costs of living, and concerns over property value assessments. The Board and financial advisors explained that the resolution was intended to reserve the town's right to exceed the tax cap if necessary due to budget requirements such as utility costs, salaries, and contractual obligations, rather than a final vote to implement a specific increase. Discussions also touched upon the town's growth, new construction projects, and transparency regarding budget processes.
