Community Development Committee Committee Meeting
The meeting focused on a proposed amendment to the zoning ordinance concerning yard setbacks. The discussion centered on extending mandatory buffer yard protections to single-family semi-detached (twin) dwellings and single-family attached (row home) dwellings, aiming to address equity and consistency in housing protections. Representatives from the planning and zoning bureau provided feedback, expressing concerns about the potential unintended consequences of a 15-foot buffer requirement on infill development. The committee and planning staff discussed an alternative proposal to reduce the buffer yard requirement to 8 feet in specific residential districts to balance neighborhood compatibility with housing production needs.
