The Gastown Public Spaces Plan provides a framework for guiding the planning and design of streets and public spaces in the Gastown neighborhood, aiming to create a vibrant, people-focused area. Its core focus is on developing a flexible, multi-modal design for Water Street and Maple Tree Square. Key strategic directions include integrating the histories and cultures of local Nations, enhancing the public space network for gatherings, establishing Water Street as a pedestrian-first retail corridor, converting Cordova Street to two-way traffic, strengthening streetscape character, and improving neighbourhood services and operations.
