Draper City Council Minutes
The council held public hearings regarding a proposed property tax rate increase for residents within both Salt Lake County and Utah County. The Finance Director presented an impact statement explaining that the proposed tax rate adjustment aimed to generate additional revenue to cover operational and compensation costs, fund new firefighter positions, and maintain playground replacement schedules, while reducing reliance on the city's fund balance. Residents offered significant public comment, expressing concerns about the rising cost of living, inflation, and the impact of the tax increase, while suggesting alternative budget management strategies. The Mayor provided context regarding municipal finance, the state-regulated property tax process, and the city's long-term financial planning and public safety needs.
The commission discussed coordination with the Historical Society, provided updates on the museum, and planned for Draper Days tours. Additional topics included Juneteenth website information, the development of walk-through video tours of historic homes, the status of walking tour brochures, strategies for Native American recognition, participation in America250 initiatives, and ongoing research into ethnic and minority history in the community.
