The meeting focused on the audit of the 2025-2026 Town Financial Statements. Key discussion topics included the review and subsequent approval of these financial statements, following a recommendation from the audit committee.
The meeting featured a presentation from external auditors regarding the audit of the town's financial statements. The committee reviewed the consolidated statements, including individual divisions such as the utility and cemetery funds, capital expenditures, long-term debt, and remuneration disclosures. Auditors clarified the accounting approach for capital assets and discussed a subsequent event regarding a breach at the Deers Lake Dam. Council members identified minor typographical errors in the financial notes, which the auditors agreed to correct in the final version.
The council discussed several topics, including a tribute to Captain Angus Walters, the process of temporary borrowing for capital projects, and updates on the development of a banner policy and the status of the LAF fund.
