The City of Watauga's budget for the fiscal year 2022-2023 includes discussions on revenue from property taxes, sales tax receipts, and charges for service revenues. It covers the restoration of positions reduced during the pandemic, a cost-of-living increase for employees, and the utilization of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for infrastructure projects and equipment. The budget also addresses capital improvement projects such as street maintenance, traffic signalization, and park improvements, funded through debt issuance. It aligns with the City Council's goals, including maintaining financial strength, expanding public safety, developing economic development efforts, and improving community involvement.
The City Council had a workshop to discuss updates to chapter four of the code of ordinances, specifically the alcohol beverage chapter. The council recognized employees for milestone anniversaries and introduced the new HR director. The council discussed the approval of the new city manager's contract, several specific use permits, and appointed a representative for the appraisal district. Additionally, the council appointed members to fill vacancies.
The City Council meeting included discussions and presentations on various topics. The council honored employees and winners of a fire safety poster contest. A proclamation was made declaring November 27th as Small Business Saturday. The council discussed amending rules for the park zone, and refinanced bonds, resulting in savings.
