This Strategic Plan outlines the Central Valley School District's future direction, focusing on four strategic areas: fostering a culture of belonging and equitable opportunities, reimagining systems and structures, prioritizing district-wide supports for the whole child, and launching infinite possibilities. The plan is guided by core values such as being visionary, present, adaptable, inclusive, and evolutionary. Its mission is to partner with the community and unlock every possibility for each child by fostering curiosity, hope, and love of learning, with a vision to inspire each learner to find their purpose and impact the world.

This document outlines the strategic planning process for the Central Valley School District. Developed through extensive community engagement with students, parents, staff, business leaders, and local government, the plan establishes four key Strategic Pathways: Pursuing a culture of belonging and equitable opportunities for all; Reimagining systems and structures; Prioritizing district-wide supports for the whole child; and Launching infinite possibilities. The overall objective is to prepare students for college, career, and life by leveraging resources and fostering a student-focused approach, with an implementation timeline spanning the next five years.

The board meeting centered on the recognition of staff through the 2021 district-wide meritorious service awards. The presentation included awards for certificated staff for their contributions to virtual learning, student support initiatives, and student advocacy. Additionally, classified staff members were recognized for their roles in human resources, office administration, and special education support. The meeting also featured a recognition of the nutrition services team for their efforts in maintaining meal access for students throughout the pandemic.

The Board meeting focused on the presentation of the 36th annual Meritorious Service Awards across four categories: certificated, classified, employee, and community. Awards were given to individuals, teams, and organizations for their efforts in curriculum adaptation, administrative support, resource coordination during the pandemic, and leadership in ensuring safe school environments. Additionally, the district recognized support from Greater Spokane Inc. and honored the work of the outreach and professional development teams for their commitment to student engagement and learning success.

The Board met to discuss and review a resolution opposing ESB 5462 and HB 2331, as well as associated letters to the legislature. The primary concerns raised by the Board regarding the legislation included the potential for excessive bureaucracy, the imposition of outside agency oversight on the curriculum adoption process, and the infringement on the authority of the locally elected school board. The Board discussed the necessity of ensuring that students feel represented and heard within the curriculum, noting that the district already has effective systems in place for community engagement and strategic planning. A motion was made to approve Resolution 24-2 with a specific amendment to remove language citing the potential withdrawal of students as a primary impact of the legislation.
