The event was the fifth Peace and War Summit hosted by Norwich University, addressing the theme of War, Memory, and Reconciliation. The summit aims to deepen understanding of the long-term negative impacts of military conflicts, such as lingering traumas and historical antagonisms. Key discussions involved the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the Israeli-Palestinian War. The schedule included presentations by keynote speaker retired US Marine Corps Colonel William M. Mello, eight scholars, and four students, followed by workshops to discuss research papers. Colonel Mello's keynote focused on the complex, often conflicting memories resulting from combat and the difficulty in separating factual accounts from subjective experiences, which poses challenges for reconciliation.
