St. Charles Parish School Board School Board Meeting
The meeting included several proclamations, such as designating October as United Way Month, commemorating the Trailblazers Memorial, recognizing Algebra 1 achievements, observing National School Lunch Week, celebrating National School Bus Safety Week, proclaiming Digital Wellness Month, and observing Louisiana Educational Diagnosticians Month. Additionally, students from various schools were recognized for academic, arts, and athletic achievements. The Board also conducted a first reading for revisions to policies regarding the Family and Medical Leave Act, maternity, adoption, and paternity leave, and leave without pay.
The committee held an executive session for a legal update and discussion on cyber insurance. Following the session, the committee received a presentation from brokers regarding renewal options for excess liability coverage and unmanned aircraft (drone) insurance. Key discussions centered on loss cost analysis, specifically comparing options from current and prospective carriers, the impact of Self-Insured Retentions (SIRs) on coverage, and the benefits of maintaining autonomy over claims management versus delegating control to an excess insurance carrier. The committee ultimately decided to move forward with a specific insurance option that provided higher SIRs, citing the need for greater autonomy in handling and potentially settling claims to mitigate impacts on loss runs.
The meeting included a sales tax update involving an annual report overview and distribution data. The committee reviewed monthly financial reporting with a focus on transparency, budget-to-actual comparisons, encumbrances, and cash flow. Updates were provided regarding investments, LAMP activity, and bond proceeds. Discussions also covered revised millage projections following consultations with the assessor.
