Transition Design Seminar
This document is a transcript of a Transition Design Seminar addressing three wicked problems in Pittsburgh: homelessness, bridge vulnerability, and downtown blight. Three teams presented their research and proposals. The first proposed 'Healing Commons Pittsburgh' to address homelessness through phases of stabilization, structural shift, and belonging. The second introduced a 'Pittsburgh River Commons governance network' to improve bridge infrastructure and ecological health by integrating community knowledge and shifting power dynamics. The third outlined interventions for downtown blight, focusing on an open innovation challenge, adaptive reuse of vacant buildings for housing and public spaces, and achieving swimmable river water quality. The overarching theme emphasizes systemic change, community-led solutions, and long-term transitional pathways for Pittsburgh.
