The meeting, presided over by the Board of Directors President, focused on conducting the 2026-2027 enrollment lottery for new families. The Superintendent reviewed key characteristics of Neuse Charter School, noting it is a nonprofit charter school in Johnston County that operates independently and does not provide transportation or a free/reduced lunch program, emphasizing small class sizes and personalized instruction. The process for the lottery was detailed, confirming that sibling and staff priority placements for Kindergarten, First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth grades were completed prior to the general lottery. The general lottery addressed open seats projected for Kindergarten (36 seats), Third Grade (3 seats), and Sixth Grade (7 seats). The document stressed that enrollment changes can occur until the start of the school year, and waitlisted students have a chance for admission. Procedures for multiple birth siblings in the lottery were outlined, and the use of random.org for randomization was confirmed. Post-lottery instructions included timelines for families to check emails for acceptance notifications, deadlines to claim spots, and dates when waitlist information for other grades would be made available.

Board of Directors Meeting
The board discussed and approved the 2026-2027 school calendar, which aligns with the JCC fall break for parent-teacher conferences. They reviewed the lottery process and the ATSI designation letter, which was sent to families. The letter explained that the school was identified due to a subpopulation of students with disabilities scoring lower than the lowest-performing subpopulation in another school. The board also discussed shifting the applicant tracking system from Payor to Spark Hire to improve the quality of applicants.
