The primary topic of this special announcement was the official confirmation that SMU will join the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) effective July 1, 2024. Speakers highlighted this as a historic milestone and a new era for SMU athletics, noting the ACC's high academic quality and athletic success in football and basketball. The success leading to this opportunity was attributed to long-term strategic efforts, including significant facility improvements like Ford Stadium, Armstrong Field House, and the Gary Weber End Zone Complex, as well as strong donor support and alignment across the Board of Trustees.
