Meeting
The in-person meeting centered on the Hub-and-Spoke System initiative, primarily focusing on food waste diversion from landfills. Discussions included a recap of previous meetings discussing solid waste, used oil, waste tire, and college/university grants. Key agenda items involved hearing from Richard regarding hub and spoke program ideas and from Justin and Jane concerning the permitting steps required for setting up a composting facility. The goal of the hub and spoke model is to create collaborative networks to overcome logistical and financial barriers, allowing smaller and rural counties to transport material to larger 'hub' counties for processing and market delivery. The need for funding, infrastructure, and securing buy-in from county and municipal leadership for hub/spoke partnerships was emphasized. A potential capacity issue was noted, and plans were outlined to issue grant applications by September, following a two-month study of current infrastructure.
