This document outlines the vision for Alta Vista to achieve 'Distinguished School' status by 2025, emphasizing a mission of 'learning whatever it takes.' It details foundational systems and supports, including fostering a positive climate and culture rooted in acceptance, respect, and high expectations. Key strategies involve implementing Tier 1 classroom management through strong relationships and routines, and utilizing professional learning communities, Kagan structures, and restorative practices like peacekeeper circles to enhance collaboration, build community, and support student growth. The plan prioritizes data-driven instruction and evidence-based interventions to ensure all students thrive academically, emotionally, and socially, ultimately preparing them to be leaders.

The primary focus of this session was the assignment and confirmation of board members to various committees. Discussions included the legislative liaison assignments, Cheyenne Schools Foundation board representation, and Cheyenne Community Recreation District Board roles, with several members expressing interest in continuing or seeking new assignments. The process for determining roles for the Audit Committee and Executive Committee, which are tied to officer positions (Treasurer, Vice Chair, etc.), was reviewed. Other committees discussed included the Calendar Committee, Boundary Waiver Committee, Transportation Advisory Committee, Teacher of the Year Selection Committee, Educational Support Person of the Year Selection Committee, and Insurance Committee. Towards the end, there was a substantive discussion regarding board leadership, specifically concerning the roles of Chair and Vice Chair, focusing on collaboration, the importance of addressing specific district priorities such as proficiency scores and behavior metrics (including cell phone screening), and ensuring open dialogue on sensitive issues like crossing guard safety.

The strategic plan for Laramie County School District 1, titled 'Elevate LCSD1, Our students. Their future.', outlines a roadmap for the period of 2022-2027. Key strategic pillars include Student Readiness, Community Engagement, and fostering a Healthy Environment. The plan aims to enhance the educational experience and future prospects for its students by focusing on these core areas.

The meeting included recognition of staff and students, specifically two students of the week from Kerry Junior High School and Triumph High School, respectively. The 4A state girls cross country first place team champions from Central High School were also recognized. Additionally, members of the East High School FFA were recognized for their achievements at the national level.

The discussion centered on the disposition of Miller Elementary School, which closed in May 2025. Four options were presented: mothballing the school, repurposing it for district support use, selling the property, or demolishing the building. Mothballing would involve closing and boarding up the school while retaining it in the district's inventory, but it raises concerns about vandalism and maintenance costs. Repurposing could involve using the building for non-educational support purposes, such as storage or equipment maintenance. Selling the property would eliminate costs and risks but would also mean losing the site and potentially the north secondary access. Demolition would also eliminate ongoing costs but would require funding through the SFD and could involve a lengthy timeline. The possibility of separating the building and land for different uses was also discussed. Additionally, the board discussed the possibility of offering the playground equipment for free, but concerns were raised about liability issues.
