West Los Angeles College Strategy
This document outlines West Los Angeles College's strategic initiative, 'Path to Zero,' focused on eliminating textbook costs for students. The strategy addresses the financial burden of textbooks by developing Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) programs using free, open-source educational content. Key components include leveraging state funding and grants, establishing a multidisciplinary team, and initially creating a complete ZTC pathway for Biotechnology Lab Technicians, including the commissioning of custom-written textbooks. The initiative has since expanded to include Communication Studies, Spanish, and Psychology programs. The overarching goal is to increase enrollment, expand educational access, and enhance student success by removing financial barriers to learning materials.
