The Board of Commissioners held a work session to receive presentations and conduct informational discussions regarding several community organizations and initiatives. Topics included Christmas Connection, the Cullowhee River Park development, operations and financial audit updates from H.E.R.E. in Jackson County, funding requests for the JC Athletic Hall of Fame, budget planning for Mountain Projects, financial and service reports from United Christian Ministries, project updates from the Watershed Association of the Tuckasegee River, and economic and social programming by WNC Communities. Additionally, the Board discussed the design and appointment structure for the Library Board, reviewed the Building Utilization Policy, and held a discussion regarding county financial transparency and purchasing threshold updates.

The meeting included financial reports, budget ordinance amendments, and tax collector reports. New business topics featured updates from the Fontana Regional Library Board, public schools, and Southwestern Community College, as well as discussions on Project Rise, Register of Deeds records management and refunds, a resolution opposing modifications to county property tax authority, and the presentation of the proposed fiscal year budget. Legislation included a resolution regarding the library board, followed by a closed session for privileged, legal, business, property, personnel, and criminal investigation matters.

The Board of Commissioners addressed several items including the proclamation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, reports on county projects like the new Administration Building and the Whittier Water System, and a grant update for the NC Helene Recovery Recycling Infrastructure project. Additionally, the Board discussed various public comments, reviewed FY26-27 budget requests, approved a Memorandum of Understanding with municipalities regarding the Public Safety Service District tax, and voted to eliminate the existing Health Insurance Policy for Users of Nicotine/Tobacco Products. Updates on America 250 events were also presented.

The meeting included the presentation of proclamations for Law Enforcement Officers Week, Peace Officers Memorial Day, and Honoring Older Americans. Administrative reports were provided by the Chairman, Commissioners, and the County Manager, followed by informal comments from the public. New business items addressed the Webster Facility Agreement, and appointments were made to the Cashiers Planning Council. The board also conducted a closed session to discuss matters related to privileged information, legal issues, business expansion, real property, personnel, and criminal investigations.

The board issued proclamations for Law Enforcement Officers Week, Peace Officers Memorial Day, and Older Americans Month. The county manager provided updates on several infrastructure projects, including the Charles Elder Event Center, EBCI water expansion, various community parks, and the new administrative building. Discussions were held regarding future plans for the Blue Ridge School, the library board, and the Cashiers small area planning council. Additionally, the board approved an agreement for an emergency shelter facility for foster children.
