North Providence Town Council Special Meeting
The council convened to discuss a stop work order regarding a storage facility development located at 1204 Douglas Avenue. Council members expressed concerns about changes in the project's scale, specifically the transition from a proposed one-story design to three stories. A legal representative provided clarification on the council's authority, the zoning enforcement officer's role, and the legal constraints of the original zone change ordinance, noting the absence of explicit height restrictions in the approved documents. The debate centered on the enforceability of conditions not formally documented in the zoning ordinance and the town's potential liability regarding the issuance of stop work orders.
