KIPP DC is creating a new blueprint for success by reimagining the high school experience. The plan focuses on building a state-of-the-art college preparatory community high school in Ward 8, designed to equip more than 800 students with the tools and knowledge to achieve their dreams. The school also enhances learning and springboards students into becoming Washington, DC's next generation of leaders.

The KIPP DC Board of Directors convened a meeting to address compliance with the Public Charter School Board's conflicts of interest policy, specifically concerning a proposed contract with Kids Elite Sports. The board reviewed an overview of Kids Elite Sports and its services, including the cost and alternative summer programming options. A potential conflict of interest was discussed, as the Chief Equity & Inclusion Officer is married to the founder and CEO of Kids Elite Sports and is the co-founder and managing director of the company. Board members asked questions about the contract and potential competitors. The Board discussed the potential contractual relationship with Kids Elite Sports, and KIPP DC's conflicts of interest policies. The Board voted on whether KIPP DC could obtain a more advantageous transaction without the conflict.

The KIPP DC Board of Directors convened to discuss several key issues. The Finance Committee provided an update, noting lower than expected revenue and enrollment due to COVID-19. The Governance Committee discussed the search for KIPP DC's new president, including the engagement of an executive recruiter and the development of a search timeline. The School and Community Affairs Committee focused on academic performance and recovery strategies to address learning loss. Organizational wins were highlighted, including vaccine administration, student achievements, and the opening of a new Legacy Prep campus. Updates were provided on student enrollment for SY 2022-23 and the FY 2022 budget, including challenges and potential funding increases. The meeting went into a closed executive session to discuss employee matters and consult with a lawyer.

The Board reviewed and approved KIPP DC's 2025 Ambition Goals and Metrics, which reflect the organization's core values and ambition to develop into a more impactful, innovative, and inclusive school system. The goals aim to provide joyful, identity-affirming learning experiences so that all students and alumni achieve extraordinary outcomes.
