Morganton Board of Adjustment Board Of Adjustment Meeting
The board conducted a quasi-judicial hearing regarding a zoning variance application for the Chick-fil-A at 1006 Burkmont Avenue. The applicant requested a reduction in the required accessory structure rear yard setback from 6 feet to 2 feet to allow for the construction of an open-air canopy over existing drive-thru lanes. Key discussion points included the functional need for the canopy to protect employees during the order process, the site limitations caused by existing drive-thru configurations and underground stormwater infrastructure, and the applicant's failed attempts to acquire the adjacent property to achieve compliance.
