Board meetings and strategic plans from Johnny Deshotel's organization
This document presents the 2026 Black History Theme, 'A Century of Black History Commemorations.' It outlines the historical journey of Black history observances, from the founding of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History in 1915 and the establishment of Negro History Week by Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1925, to the evolution of Black History Month. The theme aims to explore the transformative impact and meaning of these commemorations on the status and perception of Black peoples globally, highlighting their ongoing importance amidst efforts to challenge historical narratives and reinforcing ASALH's mission to promote and preserve Black life, history, and culture.
The panel meeting began with introductions. Key discussion points included an update from Brenda Farez of Families Helping Families regarding program resources, support for parents during student transitions, and legislative advocacy resources like Lacan Advocates. Coach Jorie Randle provided an update on student special events, noting student success in bowling and preparation for spring events. Kelli Lafleur discussed the status of High Cost funding, noting the financial report would be delivered at the subsequent meeting.
The 'Road to Reimagine Year One' report details the Evangelin Reimagine Academy's successful first year, focused on fostering student purpose and potential. It highlights the establishment of a positive culture, implementation of specialized learning 'zones' in communications, art, farming, and gaming, and initiatives for financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and student leadership through 'Class Equity', learning excursions, and a market/expo.

Budgeted revenues for all operations are $81,191,865.02 and total budgeted expenditures are $81,135.366.08.
The meeting included discussions and approvals on various topics, such as a sales tax comparison, management of school revenue and expenditures, and a proposal for an intergovernmental lease agreement regarding Hester Heath. The board also addressed the pupil progression plan for the 2025-26 school year, seclusion and restraint guidelines, and the ratification of requisitions. Additionally, there was a discussion regarding changes in background check procedures due to new legislative requirements, impacting the hiring and training of employees and volunteers.
