The Campbell County Board of Education held an emergency meeting to address the 2020-2021 Bus Contract. A key change in the contract allows for the use of all 33 buses for alternate purposes during extraordinary events, such as public health crises or natural disasters, as deemed necessary by the director of schools.
The Campbell County Board of Education workshop session focused on the 2020-2021 bus contract, specifically addressing mileage, seat capacity, and fuel price supplements. Discussions included the need for bus drivers to deliver meals and work packets, and the allocation of transportation funds. Concerns were raised about fairness and the need for a legally sound contract. An emergency meeting was scheduled to finalize the contract and address interim guidance for implementing safety practices for critical infrastructure workers.
The meeting focused on updates regarding school safety protocols in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Discussion points included the installation of keycard entry vestibules at all schools, the implementation of the Emergency Operational Plan (EOP) incorporating CDC guidelines for critical infrastructure workers, and procedures for student and staff health and safety, including quarantine protocols, cleaning procedures for buses and schools, and the distribution of cleaning supplies and thermometers. The use of well rooms and sick rooms for students was also addressed.
The Campbell County Board of Education meeting covered various topics, including the introduction of the LifeBlue Health Care program, providing tablets and hotspots for students with 24/7 support and medical access. The board approved the telehealth service, a new policy regarding FFCRA leave, and the FY21 Consolidated Application for IDEA/ESSA. A tenure list was approved, along with the school reopening plan and a resolution for emergency suspension of board policies. Several policies were approved on first reading, and the Edgenuity virtual learning program was approved for grades K-12. Legal matters, including updates on the Rock Quarry project, were also discussed.
