The City Council meeting included discussions on several business items, such as board and commission appointments and the first reading of an ordinance regarding the rezoning of property at 609 West Oakland Avenue from residential to planned development. The council also reviewed and approved the first reading of an ordinance to amend the fiscal year 2025-2026 budget, specifically covering capital project expenses, grant funding, and fire department equipment purchases. Council reports highlighted local events, including Memorial Day commemorations, festivals, and upcoming community initiatives such as storm readiness activities and ribbon-cutting ceremonies. Additionally, two new employees in the communications department were introduced.

The council received a presentation regarding an International Tennis Federation award for the Tennis Center. Key administrative actions included the approval of several reappointments to city boards and commissions, the final reading of a budget amendment, and the final reading of the new fiscal year 2026-2027 budget. Staff presented Draft Chapter B of the UDO, detailing proposed changes to zoning districts, including the addition of Downtown Transitional, Conservation Preservation, Parks & Institutional General, and Shaw Airforce Base districts. Additionally, the commission reviewed new overlay districts for Residential Infill and the Sumter County Airport, as well as a proposed name change for the Central Business District to Downtown Core. Discussions also covered permitted uses, use standards, dimensional requirements, and provisions for nonconformities.
