Committee on Youth Affairs Public Hearing
The committee held a public hearing regarding the Theatrical Wrestling Regulation Amendment Act of 2025. The discussion focused on the current regulatory burden placed on independent theatrical wrestling events, which are currently governed by the same framework as competitive combat sports. Key testimony highlighted the performative and choreographed nature of these events, the financial strain caused by excessive regulatory fees and requirements, and the positive community impact of independent wrestling shows. Witnesses argued for the necessity of legislative reform to create a distinct category for theatrical wrestling to ensure sensible regulation that supports local promoters and performers.
