District 58 Legislative Public Hearings
The purpose of the meeting was to review highway construction priorities for District 58, which covers Caldwell, Catahoula, Concordia, Franklin, Lasalle, and Tensas parishes, as part of the Highway Priority Program (HPP) roadshow. Discussions included updates from the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) on transformation initiatives, streamlining project delivery, and establishing a fiscally constrained five-year HPP. District Administrator Lee Wallace provided an overview of the district's scope, maintenance activities, and accomplishments utilizing Louisiana Transportation Infrastructure Fund (LTIF) funding, including tree removal due to pine beetle infestation, pavement marker installation, concrete patching, and safety improvements at an intersection in the city of Vidalia. Future plans with the $7 million received for the current fiscal year include additional tree removals, joint repair projects, and microsurfacing. Updates were also provided on two critical bridge projects: the LA506 bridge replacement (finalized) and the LA3102 LTO Acro Bridge project (near completion). The overall goals of the HPP were outlined: preserving the system, operating the system (including effective evacuation routes), improving safety, expanding accessibility, and improving the quality of life.
