The meeting included the reorganization of board leadership, with the appointment of a new chairman and the confirmation of the secretary role. Key discussion topics focused on the appropriation of Medicare reimbursement funds for the EMS department, the acquisition of replacement patient cots, and the potential procurement of a side-by-side utility vehicle for joint fire and EMS use, to be funded via FEMA grants and the sale of existing department assets. Additionally, a board member formally announced their upcoming resignation.
The meeting minutes from the January 6 meeting were approved. Key discussions involved the sale of the rescue squad for $10,000 to a nonprofit organization, which also provided a $5,000 tax credit letter. It was reported that the 2006 engine debt has been paid off, and another engine debt will be cleared shortly, indicating low current debt levels. An additional appropriation for the TOT and Medicare adjustment fees could not be processed due to missing the required gateway posting deadline and will be addressed at the next meeting. Discussions also covered eligibility standards for assistance programs, noting that assistance is often granted based on emergency circumstances rather than strict financial guidelines, and that burial assistance qualifications were questioned. Training budget allocations for the fire department ($20,000) and EMS ($15,000 or $35,000 combined) were reviewed, along with in-house and external training opportunities, including hosting joint classes with Green Township. Budget details concerning overtime ($70,000 allotted) and the potential for recouping money from vehicle accidents were raised but not acted upon for fire-related incidents. Financial matters included reviewing expenditures on a Master Card via Card Service Center (totaling $12,883 for the year, where itemization was requested), payments for fuel to the Mooresville school system ($12,000, secured at a government price due to shared bulk purchasing), and the purchase of body armor (vests and helmets) for $18,000 total, which is on a 6-8 week lead time.
