The board meeting focused on several key topics. This included the recognition of student 'Wave Makers' from elementary, middle, and high school levels. The transportation director provided a comprehensive operational report covering fleet metrics, safety initiatives, staffing, route coverage, and future departmental goals. The board discussed the upcoming recommendation for legal fee payments and reviewed the December financial reports, which included updates on general fund balances, ad valorem and sales tax collections, interest revenue, and capital fund status.

The board discussed several initiatives including the adoption of the community eligibility program to provide free meals for all students. Actions taken included the hiring of an additional English language learner teacher and authorizing a contract for a certified teacher to provide in-person instruction for students with visual impairments. Furthermore, the board partnered with the Huntington Learning Center to offer an affordable 32-hour ACT preparation course for students.

The meeting featured a presentation on exceptional education, covering gifted education programs, 504 plans, and special education services, which serve approximately one in five students in the district. The Board also presented the annual evaluation results for the Chief School Financial Officer, noting an outstanding performance rating. Additionally, the Board authorized a contract for the 2024 Ambassadors of the Environment summer program, providing educational opportunities for students from the local elementary and middle schools.

The board approved student handbooks for all three campuses. Additionally, several specialized contracts for services including speech, occupational and physical therapy, psychometry, and specialized instruction were approved to support students and faculty. Regarding the new high school construction, the board approved an expenditure to upgrade the camera and audio systems for security and teaching purposes, as well as a change order for the installation of an all-purpose covered practice facility.
