The board reviewed several variance and special exception requests. Actions included granting a front setback variance for property at 1301 White Oak Lane and a special exception for a detached garage with internal improvements, provided the space is not rented or used for permanent living. Additionally, a special exception was approved for an applicant to live in a camper while a house is constructed, subject to re-evaluation in six months. A front setback variance was granted for property at 2080 Hinds Creek despite staff concerns. A request for a variance regarding joint permanent easement construction standards was tabled for further study. The board also discussed future meeting protocols regarding the opening invocation and pledge of allegiance.
The committee discussed several items, including planning a separate meeting regarding flock cameras and receiving a status update on a joint tour of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The committee approved moving forward with an application for an ARC Planning Grant for the Edgemoor Road Corridor and deferred discussion on the Fireworks Resolution. Additionally, the committee acted to forward the Anderson County Fire Prevention and Life Safety Resolution, which proposes adopting the 2024 International Fire Code, to the Fire Commission for further review. No action was taken on the New River Water Project or the funding costs for the new animal shelter.
The meeting focused on the FY 26/27 budget public hearing and various appropriations across county departments. Key actions included approving purchasing contracts for copiers, construction projects, and tuition assistance. Numerous appropriations were reviewed and referred for approval, including funds for educational grants, facility repairs, equipment upgrades for the Highway and Circuit Court departments, library communications, and various grants.
