Saratoga County Board Of Supervisors Public Hearing Minutes
The public hearing was convened to discuss a proposed local law authorizing a full property tax exemption for veterans determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to be 100% permanently and totally service-disabled. Multiple veterans, advocates, and community members provided public testimony in support of the legislation, emphasizing the distinction between disability compensation and public assistance, the ongoing sacrifices related to service-connected injuries, and the goal of ensuring disabled veterans remain within the community. Participants discussed the fiscal impact on the local budget, noting that the exemption would affect a very small percentage of homeowners, and highlighted the importance of county-level support for those who have incurred significant service-related health consequences.
