The board met to address several construction and maintenance items. Discussions included a briefing on a meeting with the Mayor regarding a Memorandum of Understanding for landscaping around a library. Additionally, the board approved contracts for electrical modifications at Spencer High School, painting projects at Blackmon Road Middle School and Richards Middle School, and carpeting for Blackmon Road Middle School.

The Board convened a meeting for the purpose of entering into an executive session to receive legal counsel regarding a matter protected by attorney-client privilege.

The board discussed and approved a construction schedule for various school renovation and addition projects slated for 2004. An updated architectural plan for the Wynnton Elementary construction project was presented and approved to minimize environmental impact on trees. A purchase order for a new sound system for the Columbus High School auditorium was authorized using multiple funding sources. Additionally, the board awarded a contract for construction management services for the J.D. Davis and Cusseta Road Elementary projects and selected Freeman & Associates as the construction management risk contractor. Technical waivers regarding late affidavit submissions from potential contractors were addressed, and a board member was excused due to illness.

The board convened a special called meeting to act on an employee due process hearing. The meeting included an executive session for deliberations. The board heard a ruling from the hearing officer regarding a motion equivalent to a summary judgment, which was overruled. Subsequently, the board voted on the termination of an employee contract for the 2005-2006 school year, ultimately deciding not to terminate the contract.
