The meeting focused on an economic development framework facilitated by the North Olympic Development Council. Key discussion topics included agency debriefs regarding economic development discussions with the Port of Port Townsend, and a roundtable for jurisdiction updates from the City of Port Townsend, Jefferson County, the Jefferson County Public Utility District #1, and the Port of Port Townsend. The group also reviewed outcomes from previous workshops involving intent mapping for shared regional economic goals, including infrastructure, housing, workforce, and climate change resilience.
The Commission discussed several business items, including the authorization of a formula for pricing aviation fuel at the Jefferson County International Airport, the sale of the vessel Dauntless, and the 2027 budget schedule and process. Reports were provided on harbor activity, including haul-out statistics and RV/moorage occupancy. Financial reports for the year-to-date were reviewed, highlighting year-over-year revenue growth, operating expenditures, and updates on capital projects such as the breakwater repair, pavement preservation, and fuel system improvements.
The meeting focused on two primary topics. First, commissioners debriefed on recent joint meetings with the County and PUD, discussing collaboration, economic development potential, zoning and land use, and the Port's partnership role. Second, the Commission discussed revenue opportunities and rate adjustments for the 2027 budget cycle, including strategies for increasing winter guest traffic, infrastructure improvements such as wifi and antenna upgrades, and potential rate adjustments for marina and dock facilities.
